5 Fun Formats for Team Engagement in the Remote World

In the increasingly remote world of business, teams continue to be the cogwheels of the whole operation. If your teams aren’t functioning smoothly, there are bound to be shortcomings in the results and growth of a company.

This is where Team Engagement comes into the picture; it is a catalyst for efficient collaboration amongst your employees. And why is that important? Simply put - team collaboration and bonding underpins the team culture, innovation, and the long-term health of an organization.

We, at CTQ, have been working with teams for close to a decade, helping them build trust, share insights and experiences, and cross-pollinate ideas. To achieve this we have identified some fun formats which actually have long-lasting benefits for a workforce when carried out regularly.

Here are some such formats (which have been adapted to a remote and hybrid environment) for you to try out with your teams -

  1. PPT Karaoke - A format targeted to exercise your team’s creative muscles. The improv element of having to deliver a presentation made up of off-beat (or even hilariously weird!) slides, is a great way to get your employees to think on their feet and out of the box.

  2. Quintessence - A 60 min book summary format created by CTQ, that has elements of quizzing & storytelling. It is a great way to get your team to know about a pioneering team, without becoming a dull book club discussion. The best part: no one has to read the book in advance.

  3. Masterclass - Puts the spotlight on one team member and their passion, or skill set. An interview-style format where one member assumes the role of a panelist, and others throw questions at them about their areas of expertise. This is a great way to help the team realize the varied strengths amongst them, and also establish a ‘who-can-i-turn-to-for-input’ list.

  4. Future IQ - A fun trivia session on future trends from various domains. Gets people to put on their soothsayer's hat. Appointing a host to prepare trivia questions, or asking everyone in the team to bring questions to the discussion are two easy ways to facilitate trivia rounds remotely.

Such formats have a lasting impact on a workforce - a statement that has become even more relevant post-pandemic. The good news is that “Indian employees recorded the world’s second-highest levels of employee engagement, with one in five (20%) saying they felt fully engaged at work against a global average of 14%” (ET).

While the statistics for employee engagement in India are promising, they do show room for improvement. Managers, leaders, and executives need to understand the importance of an engaged workforce. It can be what allows companies to hire good talent, and retain it. Now that the talent pool is limitless in the remote world, why not start doing more to keep your employees motivated and inspired at work?

With that thought in mind, we at CTQ, set up the Connections Cafe - a virtual coffeehouse catering to the curious, inquisitive, driven, and hungry minds. This virtual networking hub allows leaders, employees, executives, freelancers, and entrepreneurs to come together and collaborate and exchange ideas. Providing such networking, learning, and collaborative channels in a remote or hybrid work setup can be hugely beneficial to start your fun team engagement activities - so, start there.

Tell us in the comments how you have kept your teams engaged in the remote working setup!
