How can I start reading daily?
This is a post by Ankita Verma, content designer at CTQ
Reading daily is a great lifestyle addition that will help you become a lifelong learner and stay future-relevant. There are quite a few things you can do to make sure you read daily. I’ve listed some of these below.
Identify as a daily reader: By telling yourself you are someone who reads daily, you’ll automatically be more inclined to live up to that identity.
Keep the daily appointment: Fix a 15-minute slot in your day dedicated to reading. Scheduling this time may seem like a task at first. But, as reading becomes a habit, you’ll start to enjoy it and may even find yourself reading beyond the allotted time.
Have reading content ready: Don’t go looking for something to read in the time allotted for reading. It should already be available to you. For this, add any interesting articles you come across online to a to-read-later list (you can save the links in the Pocket app). Or join a reading group like the Daily Reader – then you won’t have to worry about finding the right material as the curation is taken care of.
Make pacts: Commit to the goal of reading daily. You can make a bet with a friend or use online platforms like Stickk to do that. You can even try positive reinforcement – pledge to donate money or books to a charity of your choice when you complete an unbroken streak of, say, 100 days of reading.
Make the streak visible: Use the Seinfeld method to view and maintain your reading streak. The visual representation of the streak and the satisfaction of marking the completion of each day’s reading will keep you motivated to stay true to your goal.
Take help: Cultivating a meaningful reading habit from scratch can seem daunting. Let experts help you design a personal system of reading and guide you to make this system sustainable.
