How to read for 1000 days (And how Team CTQ did it)
In this special CTQ Smartcast, Sanasi speaks to Ramanand, Harish, Sirisha and Ankita, who together committed to start reading a book summary everyday and saw this tiny habit turn into a 1000-day reading journey. We speak on what it takes to stick to something for long, forming life-changing habits, and then helping others do the same.
Back on January 1, 2018, Team CTQ embarked on a strange reading journey. We had a Blinkist subscription that we would use on and off. And we were all decent readers already, albeit reading our own things. So putting the two together, we thought, why not read one Blinkist book summary everyday, as a group, and see how long we could go.
Now, just to make it exciting (and motivate everyone to take this seriously), we formed a ‘Reading Compound’, and pledged to read one pre-decided book summary everyday. Every time someone finished reading, they would acknowledge it, and add their own takeaway and rating of the summary. Moreover, the day’s work wouldn’t be considered ‘done’ until each member had finished their own reading.
Little did we know that this would be the start of a streak that today remains unbeaten with over 1000 book summaries. Not just that, people (friends, peers, followers et al) started getting inspired, and asked that we set up compounds for them - to help in their own habit-building ventures.
Today, CTQ Compounds is an offshoot of its own, with over 120 readers, reading everyday, in over 13 compounds actively curated by us.
Along the way, we at CTQ learned more ourselves and about forming habits in general.
