The Art of Reflection is all about asking simple but powerful questions

(This is from Edition 57 of The Upleveler, our weekly smartletter)

The authors of this article on regaining the lost art of reflection say:

"In reflective thought, a person examines underlying assumptions, core beliefs, and knowledge, while drawing connections between apparently disparate pieces of information."

Reflection is the action of looking back, looking at, and delving deeply into what you think, believe, and do. It acts as a gentle speed-breaker, brings you back to conscious thought, and is critical in helping you learn the right lessons from experience.

Have you been taught to reflect? Do you remember to reflect regularly? Our guess is that you said "no" to both. Building a habit of asking the right questions is a "compounding" routine: it pays off to make you a better thinker, a better decision-maker, and a more authentic person.

At CTQ, we are big on reflection. We do it daily and at the end of milestones, successes, and failures. From our experience of deliberately cultivating reflection in personal acts and professional deeds, here are six simple tips on how you can reflect better:

These will help look up from the daily treadmill of non-stop action.

But do you know what kinds of questions to reflect upon? Look at this selection of our top 25 questions here.

Not everyone knows the benefits of reflection. Be a good samaritan and send this to your friends and co-workers who really need to reflect more.
